Top Tips On Holding A Successful Book Sale For Your School
ShareAre you in charge of setting up a fundraiser for your school? Are you still trying to decide what type of fundraiser to hold? Here are some tips on how to set up a successful used book sale to raise money:
Announce that you need books: Have custom signs printed up and hang them in the hallways to announce that you're looking for book donations. Let everyone know that students who donate books can earn points towards their classroom for a pizza party or that they can redeem for things like extra recess for themselves. Not only should your custom signs have this information, they should also whether they should take books to the library, the office, or somewhere else entirely. You should also have fliers printed up with the same information and send it home with students.
Offer rewards for volunteers: You will probably receive more books than your faculty is able to sort. It may also be difficult to find enough people to staff the book sale while you are holding it. Let everyone know that volunteer workers will be rewarded for their efforts. For younger students who are still able to read and help sort hardcover from paperback, you may want to reward them with special pencils or some other novelty item. Older students and parents who choose to help may enjoy being able to pick out one or more books to buy before everyone else shows up. Some high school students may be enticed with the offer of an off-campus lunch pass.
Divide books into categories: More people will be interested in purchasing books if they are divided into groups, rather than being piled together. Unless you have a massive amount of books, there is probably no need to divide them into subjects. Rather, you should sort them into hardcover and paperback, as well as into rough age groups. Have custom signs printed for each table to let buyers know what age group or groups are on the table and how much the books cost.
Let everyone know where the sale is being held: If you've worked at the school for a while, you may have forgotten how difficult it can be to navigate. Even if you tell everyone that the sale is in the gym, not everyone is going to know where the gym is. Use custom signs in your school parking lot and in the corridors to help point the way to the book sale. The easier it is to find the location of the sale, the more people who are likely to buy from you.
